Breeders Cup Venue 2011 - Churchill Downs

Churchill Downs is perhaps the most famous racecourse in the USA as it hosts the Kentucky Derby each year, as well as the Derby it has hosted the Breeders Cup on more occasions than any other. That record will be added to as it will once again play host to the two-day event this year as well as in 2011, most are delighted that the Breeders Cup will be back in Kentucky and it should play host to a great couple of days.

The course itself is located in Louisville, Kentucy and officially opend in 1875 which was the year of the first Kentucky Derby, and it is a racecourse that has gorwn in stature and prestige ever since. The first time the racecourse hosted the Breeders Cup was in 1988 and it was a roaring succes, meaning that it is now a regular fixture on the Breeders Cup Calendar. In the early part of the 21st century Churchill Downs underwent a major renovation with the clubhouse in particular receiving a big upgrade.

Racing at Churchill Downs takes place at two distinct times of the year with the first one running from a week before the Kentucky Derby and running through to July, and the second one coming between the end of October and and November when the Breeders Cup is incorporated.
