Breeders Cup Marathon - Afleet Again bags staying crown
The Breeders Cup Marathon was only added to the card in 2008 but has already proved a masisve hit with fans and punters both in the US and in Europe. The race is run over 14 furlongs or 1 3/4 miles on the dirt track and was won in 2008 by Muhannak under the ride of Pat Smullen, 2009 was also a good year for the Europeans as the Aidan O Brien trained Man of Iron claimed the win.
Any horse that wins any of the Greenwood Cup Handicap, the Turfway Park Fall championship Stakes, Cougar II Handicap or the Diamond Stakes in the US will automatically qualify for the Breeders Cup Marathon in 2011. An interesting runner in this one on saturday will be the excellent Meeznah who has won some top races in the UK for trainer David Lanigan and should go close at Churchill Downs.
